Should have added this ages ago - I've been busily helping with this joint Season of Codes for quite a while since I'm in the Calgary Renaissance Singers, one of the choirs involved. Our first concert in the series is Christmas in Code, December 7 and 8 - plan to come if you can! It's sure to be interesting. And the music is glorious.
Next stop for us? A Leap Day concert - since February 29 only comes around every four years. Worth celebrating!

Make My Logo Bigger Cream
Yes - you knew someone had to come up with something to placate all those wannabe designer clients out there. Here it is:
Make My Logo Bigger Cream
Surely it works?! (Note the use of the Interrobang...)

Interrobang?
Courtesy of Nancy, the following:
"I was listening to a CBC program about language and words on Saturday (it's called "And Sometimes Y"; it comes on at 11:30 a.m. on CBC 1) and they were talking about a punctuation mark I had never heard of before .... it's a symbol called the "interrobang" and it combines a question mark (or interrogation mark as they called it) and an exclamation mark (apparently the slang name for it among typesetters is the bang)."
Descriptions:
Wikipedia
search.com
And now I need to know what an asterism is.
Go forth and astound your friends with this one! Though if you can work "interrobang" into a sentence, I applaud you!

I'm confused...
Am I the only one that thinks Weight Watchers offering a lifetime membership is just bad advertising? If it works, why would you need to be a lifetime member? Just wondering...

The lovely Marnie
It occurs to me that I have been horribly remiss in never featuring the website and work of my very favourite local photographer, Marnie Burkhart. Marnie is the best. And I love her to death! Here's her site.
Great blog
OK, so I've recently taken up quilting. Sewing straight lines and not having to fit something to a human body is strangely liberating. Eventually, I want to give up the straight lines and do something far more organic, but in the meantime, I'm exploring how the choice of fabric can actually make a quilt look more comtemporary. (Someone please shoot me if I ever show up in a quilted vest or jacket...)
Here's one of my favourite quilting blogs - yes, there are such things. Hello My Name is Heather belongs to Heather Bailey, a fabric designer and artist. The site has wonderful photography by her husband, a professional photographer. And click on the link to her line of fabrics for Freespirit fabrics. Absolutely beautiful. Now, if I could just find a local distributer. I was in Cochrane yesterday because the store there, Addies, is supposed to carry it. It was closed, of course. Started a trend for the day... :)

100 years of photos...
...in a blog. Shorpy is a blog covering 100 years of photography. Some very cool stuff. Take the time to explore.
Helvetica - the film
An entire film about a font? You bet, when it's that old staple, Helvetica. See it here, or go to the viewing at the Uptown on May 8.
Get a MAC...
Here are the latest MAC TV commercials in case you haven't seen them yet. My favourites are still some of the older ones: Viruses, Counsellor, Self Pity, Security, etc. You can get to them by clicking on the "See all the ads' link at the bottom of the page.
Of course, if you're on a PC running Vista, be prepared to have to allow all those pesky security warnings...

Audio file converter
I've been looking for a program that could convert audio files from one format to another and I've finally found one - a free one.
Switch allows you to convert all sorts of different formats very easily. We are posting practice files for my choir on our Web site and being able to save/convert the files to MP3 format is important. Check it out.

The Type Studio
For those type addicts among us. Here is a site (and e-newsletter) from Ilene Strizver. She spoke at the UCDA conference I was at in Austin in September. Lots of goodies about type - how to use it (and how not to), history of type, etc.
